 Yoga uses the breath to unite the mind, body and spirit. This class incorporates Hatha and Vinyasa yoga methods. Hatha is basic Western yoga which concentrates on postures (asanas) and breathing techniques (prayanama). Vinyasa (flow yoga) is a form of hatha that incorporates sequential poses to link breath with movement.Concentration is on body alignment, proper breathing, mindful movement, range of motion, relaxation and restoration. Some benefits of a yoga practice are better sleep a stronger heart rate and lower blood pressure, improved muscle tone and overall better health.

Diana Stepita has earned numerous accreditation and certifications over the past 25 years including the American Council on Exercise Personal Trainer Certification, ACE Lifestyles and Weight Management Consultant, ACE Group Fitness Instructor, Aerobics and Fitness Association of American Resistance Training Accreditation, AFAA Practical Pilates and AFAA Practical Yoga Instructor.

Classes begin with slow paced and gentle stretching. This is followed by continuous movement from one pose to the next, ending with relaxation poses. Hatha/Vinyasa yoga describes many different styles of yoga which incorporate different techniques and methods from a variety of teachers and systems. It essentially means movement synchronized with breath. Mats are provided by the club and the course is taught in a peaceful atmosphere.

Jane Gerhardstein has been practicing yoga for over 20 years. She has been teaching for more than 10 of those. She says that yoga has helped her to grow stronger, be more flexible and has brought balance to her life. She says “Yoga is a big part of my life and I will always be a student of the practice.”
