TRI What?
San Juan Island Fitness Is Having A Free Triathlon Clinic and YOU ARE INVITED
The clinic is geared for the beginner and great fine-tuning for the experienced triathlete. Learn about training methods for a sprint distance event as well as terminology, transition techniques and rules of the game.
TRI When?
Each Tuesday beginning at 5:30pm starting February 23rd. Times will range depending on the topic(s) covered, but will never exceed 90 minutes.

San Juan Island Fitness Club, 435 Argyle Ave.
Why TRI?
Triathlon and specifically triathlon training, is an awesome way to work your entire body while enjoying the spirit of friendly competition. It’s not just one sport, which means cross training. Not just swimming. Not just biking. Not just running. Add to that a quick change of shoes and you’ve got an entire body workout. Put some purpose into your existing routine and join us.
TRI INFO:
The clinic will be lead by Meghan Hoffman and Paul Hopkins. Hopkins has competed in numerous triathlons for the past 10 years, from sprint distance events to completion of 5 IronMan distance events. As a past Boston Marathon participant, masters swimming competitor and spin instructor, Hopkins can assist in the education of first timers to experienced. Info on Meghan will be available soon.
Healthy Weight Challenge and Club Members: $30.00 (cost of triathlon entry, clinic is free)
SJIF Non-member: $120.00 (includes entry to triathlon) Clinic includes 8 pool/gym uses.

Saturday, April 17, first wave at 10:15 a.m.
Race capacity is 40 (I’m thinking 2 waves of 20, about 20 minutes apart. This would keep the first event manageable and if we get 40, then we can say we “sold out” this year and expand it next year)
Price: $40.00, SJIF members receive a $10.00 discount.
T-shirts: T-shirts will be available for pre-order purchase at $______ each. Orders must be placed with registration and before April 10.
Plan to arrive at least 1 hour before your wave start. All athletes need to have checked in by 9:15 in order to participate. Give yourself ample time to set up, warm up, and walk through transition.
Swim starts will be in the pool. Athletes will be sent off from the wall in 5 second intervals, which will be reflected in your overall time therefore, You MUST start at your designated time. The wave starts will be scheduled according to 500 yard swim times. Your lane will include swimmers with similar estimated 500 yard swim times. Wave start times will be assigned and posted March 31st along with your pool on the confirmations page. Lap counters will keep track of your progress and when you have one length to go (25yds) a kickboard will be placed in the water to signal you to finish the swim.
Awards: Awards will be given to top male and top female finishers. No age group categories will be awarded.
Post Race: Stick around for post race POT LUCK munchies at the club. Bring the kids and swim for free from noon to 1:30 with a lifeguard on duty or just relax in the hot tub, sauna or Jacuzzi.
Volunteers: Volunteers needed! Please sign up at the club.

Swim: 5 people (4 can be middle school age for lap counters)
Bike: To be determined, but I’m thinking about 3
Run: Maybe one to three.
